String & Wind Ensemble Classes

At Strand Studios, our String and Wind Ensemble classes offer a dynamic and collaborative environment for musicians of all levels. Students work together to develop ensemble skills, learn to blend their sound, and improve their sight-reading abilities. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, participants explore a diverse repertoire, from classical to contemporary pieces, while honing their technique and musicianship. These classes provide an opportunity to build confidence, improve group performance, and enjoy making music with others in a supportive and creative setting.

Gradient Background

Our String Ensemble Program features two levels, designed to support players of varying experience while fostering strong ensemble skills and musical growth. On the first day of each session, all students are asked to arrive at 6:30 PM for a placement audition to determine the most appropriate ensemble.

The Pizzicato Ensemble is ideal for developing musicians who can already read music, maintain a steady sense of time, and play in at least one position on all four strings (or the equivalent of completing Book 1 on any band or orchestra instrument). This ensemble focuses on foundational ensemble playing, musicality, and confidence-building repertoire.

The Crescendo Ensemble is designed for more advanced players who have studied their instrument for several years. Students in this group should be comfortable performing in harder key signatures, playing multiple-octave scales, and counting and performing more complex rhythms and bowings. This ensemble challenges students with richer, more intricate repertoire and higher-level ensemble techniques.

Both ensembles provide a supportive, collaborative environment that strengthens musicianship and prepares students for school ensembles, auditions, and lifelong music-making.
